I’ve watched too many families get burned by door-to-door sales merchants and fly-by-night operators, so we built Raw Solar to cut through the rubbish and connect you with installers who’ll do the job right.
How Raw Solar Actually Started
What made us start this company?
Honestly, I was fed up seeing good people getting ripped off by solar cowboys. Fifteen years in this industry, I’ve seen every scam going – unrealistic promises, botched installations, companies disappearing after taking deposits. Families wanting to do right by the environment getting shafted by sharks.
Too many conversations with homeowners who’d been quoted £25,000 for systems worth £8,000, or promised “free electricity forever” which obviously doesn’t exist. The industry needed sorting out properly.
We started Raw Solar because UK households deserve straight answers about solar – what it actually costs, what savings you’ll really see, which installers won’t disappear when something goes wrong six months later.
No fancy backstory or corporate bollocks. Just recognition that most people want solar but can’t tell good installers from bad ones. That’s where we come in.
What gap were we trying to fill?
The solar industry was full of comparison websites flogging your details to anyone with a van and some panels. Customer fills in form, gets hammered by sales calls from every random outfit for weeks.
Meanwhile, decent MCS-certified installers struggled to find customers because they don’t do aggressive sales tactics or pay commission to lead generation sites.
We thought, why not connect proper customers with proper installers? Cut out the middlemen, sales pressure, and time-wasters. Just match people wanting solar with qualified professionals who’ll deliver what they promise.
What We Actually Do Day-to-Day
How do we connect you with installers?
We maintain network of MCS-certified installers across the UK who’ve passed our additional checks – proper insurance, local reputation, customer references we can verify.
You submit genuine enquiry about solar for your property. We match you with 2-3 suitable local installers based on your location, property type, and requirements. No spam, no pressure, no random calls from dodgy outfits.
Installers contact you directly to arrange site surveys and provide detailed quotes. We stay involved to ensure everything progresses smoothly and professionally.
Not rocket science, but surprisingly rare in this industry. Most lead generation sites care more about volume than quality.
What makes our installer network different?
Every installer in our network is MCS-certified as absolute minimum. But we go further – local reputation checks, customer reference verification, proper insurance coverage, trading history.
We actually visit some of their recent installations, speak to previous customers, check their work quality. Sounds obvious but most platforms don’t bother.
Installers who mess customers about get removed from our network. We’re not interested in quantity over quality. Better to work with fewer reliable installers than hundreds of chancers.
Had installer in Manchester area who kept letting customers down on completion dates. Multiple complaints, excuses, poor communication. Dropped from network immediately.
